Jags lock in 2 wins during Spring Break games

The Athens Drive Jaguars went East to add 2 more wins to their season. On Monday, March 25th, they played the Ashley Screaming Eagles and won 10-9. It was an intense but very well-played game -- and the Jags first win against this team since 2015.

Jay Cohn left his imprint on the Ashley field with 4 goals and 2 assists. Tyler Fields scored 3 goals (and had an assist), Zander Adkins scored 2 and Caleb Deak scored 1. Liam Craig won 74% of the face-offs and had 9 ground balls at the face-off dot.

The defense played strong, with Wes Cohn, Webb Linton, Tyler Fields and Jack Danjczek snagging 5 ground balls each. Wes also had 3 caused turnovers and Isaiah Beardsley had 2 caused turnovers. Cali defended his cage with 13 saves (equating to a 59% save average) and won the Blue Collar helmet award as a result. Congrats, Cali!

On Tuesday, March 26th, the team had to travel to New Bern Highschool to take on the Bears. It was a high-scoring game, with the Jags closing it out 20-4. Tyler Fields was the high scorer with 6 goals and 2 assists -- surpassing his 200 career points. Zander was right behind him with 4 goals and an assist. Caleb got 3 goals, Jay had 3 goals and 4 assists (passing his 100th career goal), Wes Cohn got 2 goals, and Brower Evenhouse had 1 goal and 4 assists. Bradyn Evans got his first goal of the season, with Liam locking in an assist and Hayes Clayton also had an assist (his first point of the season).

The defense was on fire again. Wes secured 13 ground balls to pass 400 ground balls in his career. He also had 4 caused turnoers. Liam had 10 ground balls and won 21 of 24 faceoffs for a 87.5% faceoff win percentage. Brandon Lee had 3 ground balls and 1 caused turnover, and Isaiah Beardsley had 2 caused turnovers. Cali had no trouble stopping the ball with 11 saves and a 73.3% save percentage.

Congratulations to Tyler, Jay and Wes for reaching some impressive milestones in their lacrosse career, and also to Bradyn and Hayes for their "first's!" The Jags have earned some down time to enjoy the rest of the Break, but will be back on the field on Saturday, March 30 to play the Apex Friendship Patriots at Barton College. It's hard to believe we are already halfway through the season!
